Made me look at my garden in a new light. There is so much more I can do. Inspiring.
We all can and need to do something for our precious, beautiful world. This book can make a difference for all of us.
I have read and listened to a few of Kate’s books, and this one is maybe my favourite. A message of hope, while being realistic of what we face in terms of biodiversity loss, climate change and the general onslaught against our natural environment.
…a wonderful, honest, passionate book showing how the smallest of changes in the smallest of places can have a significant impact. It shows everyone has a place in the planets big picture.
Very thought provoking an extremely readable
This passionate book shows everyone how to care and why we should. Kate shows us how we can do something, however small.
A lovely book that helps us understand what each of us may do, and why it’s important for us to do ….
Kate is a brilliant writer and her words and actions always inspire. Her enthusiasm is boundless, and her love for the natural world shines through every word, with realism yet endless hope.
Such an enjoyable and honest read, showing the detailed richness of a life so well connected with nature whilst highlighting the ever present urgency that the world needs to act fast.
A passionate call for us to protect nature. Timely and urgent. A wonderful and important book for our time.
An inspirational read which also helps so much with eco-anxiety. From opening the book and reading the first word, I could not put it down. I can’t let my copy go, but will definitely recommend and buy as gifts for others.
The words just sing out to the reader. Honest, relatable and inspiring.
The passion Kate Bradbury poured into one garden against the world whilst is inspirational. I felt I lived every emotion with her through her writing, frustration, anger, joy, delight and hope. Everyone who has access to an outside space should read this.
Delighted this title is included in this great collection of books and authors. Buy, read, comment and vote for it.
An inspiring book, easy to read and shows how we can all make a positive difference for nature.
A joy to read such passion for nature
This book reflected the range of emotions I feel about the climate end nature crisis including my puzzlement as to why I can think of nothing else, and yet how others, even those close to me who ´get’ it, are not consumed by it. A wonderful help.
Totally inspiring book. One that you would want to read again and again as there’ll always be something new to ponder.
A brilliant and inspiring book that shows us we can all do something to help wildlife and the world we live in. I learned so much from it. Humans and nature would benefit from more people finding it and reading it!

Really compelling and useful stuff . I loved it!
Such an important and emotional read. Loved it.
Kate is inspiring!
Interesting, Inspiring, Important. Loved reading this book.
Kate Bradbury is so inspiring. You definitely look at gardening, wildlife and the environment differently with Kate. Everyone should do their part no matter how small.
Kate Bradbury’s wonderful book makes me feel I’m not alone with my worries about the state of our world. <3 If only everyone was somehow made to read it… It gives hope, inspires, makes the reader appreciate the smallest things in life (which don't cost a thing and are, in fact, the most important ones of our lives). Nature around us. A saved caterpillar!
A great book with practical steps to take to help make a meaningful difference.
Reminding us that we are never alone when we have nature, and how the smallest gesture to the natural world, can be the biggest difference in a creature’s day. Inspirational and reassuring. Thanks Kate !
No matter how small, we can all make a difference. Thank you Kate for another fantastic book.
A brilliant and inspiring book. Kate has done wonders for biodiversity and the planet. I can highly recommend this wonderful book. 🙂
Honest, important and inspiring.
With modern day climate chaos, this is the book we all need to read to realise that we have the power to make a difference.
We can’t all be as active or enthusiastic as Kate – or as inspiring- but this book will lead anyone who reads it do do more.
Hopeful and practical, a book like a friend.
Read it and weep with the author, who explains in heartbreaking terms all that we are doing wrong in managing so badly this world of so many living things …
And then get up, get out there and do something – anything! – to make a positive difference to them and to yourself.
This book will show you how.
Hugely inspiring book, beautifully written and a powerful call to arms. Thank you for writing it.
A fantastic, inspirational read!
Fabulous book. An inspiration to look after Nature and our Planet!
After a lifetime of collecting over 3000 books , on my desert island, this is the only one I would save from the waves. Thank you Kate for the inspiration and hope.
An inspiring read which shows us how we can help wildlife in our gardens as well as explaining why so many creatures need our help. It’s a must read for anyone with a garden who’s concerned about native wildlife under threat and wants to know what they can do to help.
The most wonderful book. We can all do our bit to help wildlife & Kates passion is infectious & inspiring.
This book is a testament to the power of the person in the face of climate change. Kate’s writing is beautiful, carrying readers through a luminous journey of a flourishing garden. I finished feeling empowered and inspired!
Wow what a book. I already garden with a sympathetic eye towards organic gardening and biodiversity however after reading this book – there is still much more I can do and if more people followed Kate’s incredible book and common sense there certainly is hope for our wonderful planet amid the chaos.
inspiring, emotive, enriching …EVERYONE CAN DO THEIR BIT
XXX 🦔
Joy, anger, frustration, love and outrage all in one book about nature and what the human race is doing. It also gives hope and really practical things to do and make a difference. Should be compulsory reading. It’s like reading a kindred but one who knows so much more than you ever will! Didn’t want it to end.
A wonderful, inspirational book written in such a warm and human way. It made me feel happy, sad and desolate and hopeful, all in equal measures.
along with Kate’s first book, ‘the bumblebee flies away’ I just couldn’t put this book down, passionate and thought provoking. The right mix of indignation, and sadness mixed with empowerment and courage in what, at times must feel like a hopeless cause. Kate makes you want to fight for nature !
This gorgeous book educated me, inspired me and made me laugh. I loved it so much.
A wonderful book filled with passion and inspiration. I have learnt so much and enjoyed it throughly.
It doesn’t matter if you even have a garden there’s something all of us can do to support our wildlife. Kate Bradbury’s passionate book opens your eyes to the plight of nature but also offers ideas how each of us, no matter where we live, can be more aware and help our wildlife survive and hopefully thrive.
Can’t wait to read this just finishing the last one ‘the bumblebee flies anyway’
Kate writes completely from the heart. You cannot help but feel as though you are right there with her in every chapter. Beautiful book and a wonderful message to us all.

Kate is inspirational and such an important voice with a message we all need to hear , a fabulous book.
I am hopeful that Kate Bradbury’s book will make more people think and see their gardens differently. Nature needs our help and we absolutely need nature. As soon as I started reading this book I felt such a strong sense of connection and familiarity. As a wildlife gardener I am always learning and I love Kate Bradbury’s practical approach, there is something that we can all do to help nature, however small. We can make a difference. We must make the difference.
This book shines a light on how our ordinary gardens can be welcoming spaces better suited for all manner of bees, insects, hedgehogs, birds.
A moving, knowledgeable and wholly inspiring book that’s made me look at my own garden with fresh eyes. Kate has much to teach us all about the collective importance of our own green spaces in supporting wildlife in a time of crisis.
Amazing book! I couldn’t put it down!
I’m jealous of Kate’s ability to put our feelings into words so eloquently and in a way that compels you to care even more, to do even more, even when we are already trying so hard. It really does begin with every single one of us, in any tiny space or large one, with lots of knowledge or with none. Everyone has to start somewhere and even for those who have been on this mission for a good while, Kate’s book is a reminder that the future of nature is in our own hands ( and those of our children).
Thought provoking and inspiring. A wonderful read.
Kate writes so honestly and straight from the heart. You are drawn into her life and feel a part of it as you read her words. A passionate writer, she is such an inspiration. I love her books and this one surpassed my expectations. Just brilliant. We can all help, even if it’s just a little bit.

Such a special book!! Everyone should read this and then go build a pond! we’ve one in a sink.
A candle amidst all this gloom – but one candle can be light enough to see the way forwards. Thank you, Kate.
I loved everything about this book. Kate’s passion, knowledge, and ability to communicate how we can all help wildlife by upping our own games, as she has hers, is SO inspiring. One Garden Against The World is brilliant, important, and timely. It deserves to win the People’s Prize!
Wonderful, inspiring and funny. A heartfelt and passsionate read. Encouraging all of us to share our precious spaces with all creatures.🐛🐜🐝🐞🦗🕷
I also garden for wildlife so this book was top of my Christmas list. In the short dark days of midwinter it’s the perfect read for those of us who feel alone in our fight to help nature. It’s just wonderful to know that there are more of us who care. Every anxiety about fledging birds, every tear shed, every hope shared. I’m not on my own, we are not on our own, we can make a difference. Loved it.
Found I’m not alone with anxieties about the impact humans are having on nature (which gave me a boost thank you) , and drank in every page of sage advice. A book written from the heart which I shall go back to month by month.
The book the world needs right now. We all need to do more, better, faster, starting with our own back yards.
A heartwarming book that’s full of one individual’s passion to care and make a difference in the natural world, beginning in her own garden, with all that feels despairing out there with our climate in crisis. Inspirational, practical and informative.
So inspiring
This is a hugely important book. If our gardens were all made nature friendly to encourage pollinators, and provide a safe haven for birds, amphibians, hedgehogs, foxes and other mammals, it would be a massive step in the right direction. Kate gives us a passionate rallying call and the practical advice we need to make these changes. EVERYONE should read this book!
Every garden, allotment, verge and window box can be a haven for wildlife – this book explains how & a lot of it is very simple
Absolutely loved this book, I did not want to put it down. Everyone who is a guardian to a patch of land or wants to become a guardian to a public patch, must read this book. I felt less alone with my anxiety and sadness for what is happening to our natural world. I felt so inspired to keep gardening for wildlife, armed with so much more knowledge and passion
We need more people like Kate – we all need nature and biodiversity – now is the time to act – everyone should read this book
This book should win – well-being in nature is a ‘thing’ so it’s a no brainer that we as custodians of this planet really work together in the hope of achieving a better future for all wildlife, nature and save the planet
Absolutely loved this book – so down-to-earth, so passionate about saving our garden wildlife. A “must read” for anyone who cares about our wildlife – or indeed, anyone who is lucky enough to own a garden.
All of Kate’s books are a treasure. There is so much we can all do to make a difference, and Kate shares her knowledge with such passion. Excellent book.
One Garden Against The World is truly a people’s book. it is a beautifully written call to arms to everyone who cares about climate change and its effect on our environment in the absence of enough being done to protect wildlife and nature. Just imagine if one garden became a hundred then a thousand gardens! Well mine is one of those too. I hope everyone who reads Kate’s book adds a garden! Maybe the sequel will be “A million gardens against the world! “
This book is SO important 💚 and beautifully written.
I loved this book, insightful, informative and full of love for the natural world especially that little bit of it that you call your home but which could be home to so many others. Inspiring!
Kate is a one-woman powerhouse connecting the natural world with people who want to do something to help it. Bravo for this book!
This book truly touched me. Before reading this book, I often felt alone in my climate anxiety, wondering if my efforts really made a difference. But this book reminded me that I am not alone—there are so many others out there working to heal the planet, one garden at a time.
Beyond the emotional impact, it also gave me practical, inspiring insights on how to take my own wildlife garden even further. I now have new ideas on how to create even more habitats and support biodiversity in meaningful ways.
Thank you for this wonderful book—it has given me both hope and action!
