Synopsis
The eight line poem competition was set up in 2013 by award winning author Christina Gabbitas. The initiative was created to encourage children to have a go at writing poetry. Since its inception the competition has encouraged over 17,000 children to put pen to paper in the UK and United Arab Emirates – NOW 23,000 to date!
Author's Bio
Children from the UK and United Arab Emirates have penned some amazing poems. Winners have read their poems live on local BBC radio. Exhibitions have been held at various venues across the UK, and hopefully the Victorian and Albert Museum of Childhood in the very near future.
Children’s Poems should be in every school: inspiration for students and support for Barnardo’s charity. Well done.
An abundance of talent at an early age.
A wonderful collection of children’s poems
What a fantastic opportunity to inspire children to write! My daughter hasn’t stopped taking about it since she began writing her entry.
The quality of writing is amazing! This is a fantastic initiative! Congratulations to all the young authors who took part! They should be very proud of their achievements!
These poems are very impressive and a great way to encourage children both reading and writing.
I bought this book for my daughter who loves all the different topics. One of her favourites is Flamingo Friday . Good luck to all the children.
What an adorable selection of poems. My granddaughter isn’t too switched on to reading but loves this book and every time she visits it’s the first thing she asks for. Thank you so much for putting this together. Good luck to all the deserving children.
Beautifully written and illustrated. Well done.
