Synopsis

Wisdom & Wordplay is packed with 300 highly original one-liners, taken from Robert Eddison’s own uniquely coined stash of thousands. They come under 150 different subjects, ranging from sex to political correctness. This book comprises a fraction of Robert’s awesome oeuvre, conjured up, since the end of the last century, on the back of innumerable envelopes and buses.

Author's Bio

After winning a European scholarship and graduating in Modern Languages and Law at Cambridge, Robert Eddison became a university lecturer, before embarking on a lecture tour of America in his mid-twenties. After a spell as a junior Foreign Office consultant, he settled for a freelance career in journalism, writing colour features for the broadsheets and tabloids.

Reviews

“Could it just be that, in the author of this remarkable book, Wilde has finally met his match?”
— Gyles Brandreth

“A superb collection. One snappy aphorism is worth a thousand flabby platitudes. Feel free to quote me!” Stanley Johnson
“Witty and concise… really wonderful… I will be reading them time and time again.” Ronald Blythe, author of Akenfield

“These aphorisms show the influence of many schools: here a touch of Pascal, and there an echo of La Rochefoucauld, but most particularly the happy inspiration of Oscar Wilde.” Donald Mead, chairman, The Oscar Wilde Society
