  1. This book showed the trials of the air crews during World War 2. It showed the willingness of the people to help our guys return to their bases, at great harm to themselves for doing so; if caught by the enemy. I am grateful that & my thaanks as well.

  2. What a wonderful and true account of an important part of WWII!

  3. If you appreciate WWII history books, it doesn’t get better than this! Full of first-hand testimony from journals and interviews, you will be transported into the B-17 Susan Ruth as it gets shot down over Nazi-occupied Belgium, and go through the trials and tribulations of the men who were either evaded, were captured, sent to prisoner of war camps… or executed. A great read for men and women, adults and children, that will instill a deeper and understanding of what the Greatest Generation sacrificed on our behalf. If it wasn’t a true story, you’d bet this was a movie.

  4. Absolutely a great book! A true description of the Greatest Generation! I couldn’t put it down!

  5. Excellent tribute, highly recommend this book and author

  6. Wonderfully written story of a World War II B-17 bomber crew and their experiences. Many books of this type focus primarily on the crew — as they should — but Snyder also brings out the story of those who were willing to help the Americans, even though they were living in occupied countries.

  7. Awesome true story about true American heroes, it’s well written and great book

  12. Could not put this book down. Had me gripped all the way through. Makes you realise what dangers they faced rescuing people and how they must have feared for their lives and those of their families. The figures listed at the end were an eye opener as to just how many people died fighting for their country. So sad.

  13. Such a well written book and so informative. Having met Howard, made it even more intriguing
